About Lisa Phillips

Welcome to Coaching Children for Significance and Success (CCSS).

My name is Lisa Phillips, though most children simply call me Coach Lisa. I am a certified children’s mental wellness, mindset and confidence coach through the Adventures in Wisdom™ program for kids. I am a certified children’s coach through the Adventures in Wisdom Life Coaching Program for Kids™, a former pre-kindergarten teacher, a retired military wife, and an advocate for helping children develop powerful mindset skills that support both academic success and lifelong emotional wellbeing.

My work is rooted in faith, purpose, and the belief that every child is created with value, potential, and a God-given sense of identity.

Why I Became a Children’s Coach

My coaching journey began long before I ever worked with children.

I entered college with a dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. Halfway through my program, I allowed a deeply rooted fear of failure and a lack of self-confidence to derail that dream. At the time, I did not have the mindset skills to challenge those false beliefs or move through them in a healthy and competent way. I was still emotionally wounded and bound by a fear of failure because I believed I wasn’t good enough. That experience, which I later explored in my memoir Written Off, became a turning point in my life.

I believe God did not allow that moment to harm or define me, but to shape me. Through that season, He gave me a new perspective and a new purpose: helping children develop the mindset skills I lacked when I needed them most.

Today I see children who lack core beliefs – they’re unsure of who they are, what they believe in or what they stand for. This is a troubling trend for their future and our society. Unlike when I grew up, kids today do not have to live unsure of who they are, held back by limited thinking, fear of failure, or discouragement. With the mindset skills and tools I teach, they can know what’s possible for them. Build confidence and self-esteem, set goals and be the person they were designed to be.

My Coaching Approach

As a children’s coach, I focus on training and prevention, not diagnosis or treatment. Coaching helps children develop emotional awareness, responsibility, confidence, and resilience before challenges become overwhelming.

My coaching sessions are engaging, age-appropriate, and rooted in a proven model that blends:

  • Storytelling to introduce meaningful concepts
  • Guided discussion to encourage reflection and understanding
  • Activities that reinforce learning
  • Simple take-home tools that help children apply skills in daily life

Through coaching, children learn how their thoughts influence their emotions, choices, and outcomes. They gain practical skills to navigate school, friendships, peer pressure, fear, change, and goal-setting with confidence.

There are 27 core mindset skills within the Adventures in Wisdom™ framework, allowing each coaching experience to be tailored to a child’s unique needs.

How I Help Children Find Significance

My heart is to help children grow into confident, responsible, and grounded individuals.

Through coaching, children are supported as they learn how to:

  • Believe in what is possible for them
  • Take responsibility for their choices and actions
  • Become people of integrity
  • Make thoughtful, values-based decisions
  • Build healthy self-esteem and inner confidence
  • Set realistic goals and work toward them
  • Develop resilience and overcome obstacles

Every child deserves the opportunity to feel seen, heard, and capable.

Author and Advocate

In addition to coaching, I am the author of Written Off: Navigating Rejection and Faith in Search for Love, Family, and Belonging, a deeply personal memoir that traces my own journey from childhood rejection to emotional restoration in Christ.

My writing reflects my heart for those who feel unseen, unheard, or misunderstood. I understand the pain of unresolved family relationships, generational wounds, fear-based thinking, and emotional invalidation, but I also believe deeply in the power of truth, faith, and healing.

Through both my writing and my coaching, I encourage others to reject a victim mindset, trust God with their wounds, and walk toward wholeness and purpose.

Training and Certifications

I have completed additional content-specific training through the American Association of Christian Counselors Foundation (AACC) and Light University, including:

  • Coaching Today’s Children and Adolescents: Issues and Strategies
  • Caring for Children God’s Way
  • Perfectionism
  • The Blessing Project
  • Bullying 101
  • Narcissistic and Emotional Abuse 2.0

Life Beyond Coaching

My husband, Ray, and I divide our time between Washington State and Arizona. We enjoy spending time with family, appreciating God’s creation, and making memories with our granddaughter, Rylee. When I am not writing or coaching, you will often find me reading, journaling, hiking, kayaking, or quietly reflecting on God’s faithfulness, especially while staying at our 1910 log cabin on Cypress Island, near the beautiful San Juan Islands, Washington State.

My Mission

My mission is simple: to help children and adults discover the power of truth, the beauty of resilience, and the hope that comes from knowing who they are in Christ.

I invite you to explore the coaching programs and packages I offer and consider how mindset coaching could support your child in becoming the best version of themselves.
